A 54-year-old San Fernando man has been charged with multiple serious offences, stemming from the alleged rape and false imprisonment of a woman.

Tyran Wallace, of Princess Margaret Street, San Fernando, appeared before Master Bethelmy on Monday and was remanded into custody.

The charges included rape, grievous sexual assault, robbery, false imprisonment and assault by beating.

The victim, a 38-year-old woman of Malgretoute Road, Princes Town, alleged that the crimes were committed against her will during the period February 27 to May 6.

It is alleged that the suspect was arrested on May 6 by officers of the San Fernando Police Station who were on patrol when they saw her lying on a roadway in distress.

When Guardian Media visited the Princes Margaret Street community yesterday, residents said they were shocked by the allegations and claimed they were unaware such incidents were allegedly taking place there.

Meanwhile, Wallace was denied bail, and a status hearing was scheduled for June 25 while a sufficiency hearing was set for November 12.
