Murder suspect surrenders to police after Tacarigua stabbing

A 49-year-old man is in po­lice cus­tody af­ter al­leged­ly stab­bing an­oth­er man to death fol­low­ing an ar­gu­ment near a bar in Tacarigua on Sun­day night.

Po­lice said Nigel Fos­ter was lim­ing near a bar on Hug­gins Street at 6.30 pm when he be­came in­volved in an ar­gu­ment with an­oth­er man.

Dur­ing the al­ter­ca­tion, the sus­pect al­leged­ly pulled out a knife and stabbed Fos­ter once in the up­per leg.

Fos­ter ran from the scene be­fore col­laps­ing near the cor­ner of De­osaran Street while the at­tack­er fled.

Of­fi­cers from the Arou­ca Po­lice Sta­tion and an am­bu­lance re­spond­ed to the in­ci­dent. How­ev­er, Emer­gency Med­ical Tech­ni­cians (EMTs) found no signs of life.

A dis­trict med­ical of­fi­cer lat­er vis­it­ed the scene and pro­nounced Fos­ter dead.

Hours lat­er, around 8.30 pm, the sus­pect walked in­to the St Joseph Po­lice Sta­tion, where po­lice cau­tioned and ar­rest­ed him.

Sources said the sus­pect had sev­er­al mi­nor in­juries and was tak­en to the hos­pi­tal for treat­ment un­der po­lice guard.

Of­fi­cers of the Re­gion II Homi­cide Bu­reau are con­tin­u­ing en­quiries.
