A 65-year-old businessman is assisting police with investigations after he inadvertently left his licensed firearm and ammunition on the rear bumper of his vehicle in El Socorro on Sunday.
Police said the man reported the firearm missing at the St James Police Station around 5 p.m.
Investigators said that around 3:30 p.m., the businessman was driving his Nissan NP300 along Sadhoo Trace, El Socorro, when he stopped at the side of the road to urinate.
Before leaving the vehicle, he placed his Glock 42 pistol and a magazine containing eight rounds of ammunition on the rear bumper.
Afterwards, he returned to the vehicle and drove away, forgetting the firearm and ammunition.
He later arrived at his business in Woodbrook, where he realised the weapon was missing. He retraced his route and returned to the location but could not find the firearm.
Police subsequently searched the area without success and are seeking CCTV footage from the vicinity.
Enquiries are continuing.
