Man charged with Manzanilla murder

A 20-year-old man has been charged with the mur­der of a 23-year-old man whose body was found along Man­zanil­la Road in May.

Po­lice said Jahim Pic­ton, a self-em­ployed labour­er of Ga­jad­har Road, San­gre Chiq­ui­to, and Vaid Road, Shiv­an Dri­ve, San­gre Grande, was charged with the mur­der of Raa­ian Ra­goo­bar.

Ra­goo­bar's body was found along Co­cal Es­tate, Man­zanil­la Road, Man­zanil­la, on May 18.

Po­lice said Pic­ton was ar­rest­ed on June 20 by Cpl Ali at an ad­dress along Vaid Road, Shiv­an Dri­ve, San­gre Grande, fol­low­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions by of­fi­cers of the Homi­cide Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tions (HBI), Re­gion II.

The Of­fice of the Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions ad­vised po­lice on June 25 to lay the mur­der charge through Ag ASP Vic­tor and PC Subi­ah (Le­gal). PC Ramb­ha­jan charged Pic­ton the fol­low­ing day.

Pic­ton ap­peared be­fore Mas­ter Ali on June 29. The mat­ter was ad­journed to No­vem­ber 19 for a suf­fi­cien­cy hear­ing.

The in­ves­ti­ga­tion was su­per­vised by Ag ASP Vic­tor, Sgt Rad­haykissoon and PC Subi­ah (Le­gal), all at­tached to the HBI Re­gion II.
