A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of another man during an altercation in Princes Town on Sunday afternoon.
Police identified the deceased as Stephen Jack, 39, of Chin Chin, Cunupia.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), officers responded to reports of a stabbing along Charlotte Street, Princes Town, at about 3:20 p.m. on Sunday.
By the time officers arrived, Jack had already been transported by a resident to the Princes Town Health Facility after suffering multiple stab wounds.
Medical personnel attempted to save his life, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 4:05 p.m.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Jack had gone to Charlotte Street in search of a female resident when he became involved in an argument with another man. Police said the dispute escalated into a physical confrontation during which Jack was stabbed multiple times.
Crime Scene Investigators later processed the scene and recovered several items considered to be of evidential value.
Acting on information received during the investigation, officers subsequently arrested a 39-year-old Charlotte Street resident in connection with the killing.
Police also recovered a flick knife from the suspect’s possession, which investigators believe may be of evidential value.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
The inquiry is being supervised by Senior Superintendent (Ag.) Williams and Assistant Superintendent (Ag.) Thomas.
Police have not disclosed a motive for the confrontation, and investigators are continuing to interview witnesses and examine the evidence collected from the scene.
The killing adds to the country’s ongoing homicide investigations, with detectives expected to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal encounter and whether charges will be laid against the suspect in the coming days.
