Lakhan tops revised King’s semifinal

Af­ter a resched­uled semi­fi­nal at the So­cadrome on Fri­day night, Ravi Lakhan emerged as the win­ner of that round of the King of Car­ni­val com­pe­ti­tion.

The semi­fi­nal round was post­poned on Wednes­day af­ter heavy show­ers dur­ing the com­pe­ti­tion par­tial­ly dam­aged the cos­tumes, prompt­ing or­gan­is­ers to even­tu­al­ly can­cel the King’s semi­fi­nal.

Ini­tial­ly, all 20 Kings would have ad­vanced to the Di­manche Gras fi­nal. How­ev­er, on Thurs­day, the Trinidad and To­ba­go Car­ni­val Bands As­so­ci­a­tion (TTC­BA) de­cid­ed to hold a re­jigged semi­fi­nal at the Jean Pierre Com­plex on Fri­day.

The 20 Kings took to the stage from 7pm at the So­cadrome, fol­low­ing which Lakhan’s “The Glass Phan­tom” placed first with 438 points.

The reign­ing King of Car­ni­val and 10-time win­ner, Cur­tis Eu­stace, placed sec­ond with 423 points, while Ray­mond Mark fin­ished 3rd with 417 points.

Ted Eu­stace, Rus­sell Grant, Fareid Car­val­ho, Daniel Bas­combe, Roop­nar­ine Ram­per­sad, Arif Gran­tum and Adri­an Young round­ed off the re­main­der of the top 10 who ad­vanced to the fi­nal round of the com­pe­ti­tion. - Pe­ter Christo­pher
