Four motorists have been fined a combined $70,000 after pleading guilty to driving under the influence (DUI) charges before Senior Magistrate Alicia Chankar at the Scarborough Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
The men between the ages 28 and 40 were among four motorists arrested during a police exercise on October 30, following the Stink and Dutty Fete at the Parade Grounds, Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet, Tobago.
They were stopped along the Claude Noel Highway, Calder Hall, where breathalyser tests recorded alcohol levels ranging from 43 to 74 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, above the prescribed legal limit.
When questioned by the magistrate about their alcohol consumption, the men disclosed that they had consumed varying quantities of alcoholic beverages, including shots of Puncheon Rum and Old Oak White Rum. One said he had consumed a drink offered by a friend.
