Four arrested as police seize ammunition and drugs

Four peo­ple were ar­rest­ed and am­mu­ni­tion, a pis­tol mag­a­zine and quan­ti­ties of cannabis seized dur­ing an­ti-crime ex­er­cis­es con­duct­ed in Cen­tral and South­ern Di­vi­sion dis­tricts over the week­end.

Ac­cord­ing to a Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS) me­dia re­lease, of­fi­cers of the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion Task Force car­ried out an op­er­a­tion be­tween 4.30 pm and 9.30 pm on Sat­ur­day in the Cou­va dis­trict.

Dur­ing the ex­er­cise, of­fi­cers searched an area near a man­go tree off Greig Street, where they found a black plas­tic bag con­tain­ing a pis­tol mag­a­zine loaded with four rounds of am­mu­ni­tion.

In a sep­a­rate ex­er­cise, of­fi­cers at­tached to the Long­denville Po­lice Post, as­sist­ed by the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion Gang Unit, con­duct­ed op­er­a­tions be­tween 4 pm and 7 pm on Fri­day.

Po­lice said the ex­er­cise re­sult­ed in the dis­cov­ery of 50 rounds of 7.62 am­mu­ni­tion and 43 rounds of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion.

ACP Re­my, Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Bhag­wan­deen, Su­per­in­ten­dent Frank and In­spec­tor Ram­per­sad co­or­di­nat­ed the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion op­er­a­tions.

Mean­while, of­fi­cers of the South­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force, as­sist­ed by the Ca­nine Branch, con­duct­ed an ex­er­cise be­tween 1.30 pm and 8 pm on Sat­ur­day.

The op­er­a­tion led to the ar­rest of four sus­pects for of­fences in­clud­ing pos­ses­sion of cannabis, pos­ses­sion of ap­pa­ra­tus and pos­ses­sion of cam­ou­flage cloth­ing.

Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Si­mon, Su­per­in­ten­dent Bertie, W/Su­per­in­ten­dent Bridglal and ASPs Pacheco, Ram­saran, Chul­han and Rag­bir co­or­di­nat­ed the South­ern Di­vi­sion ex­er­cise.

Po­lice said in­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to the mat­ters are on­go­ing.
