The Trinidad and Tobago Solid Waste Management Company Limited (SWMCOL) says a fire at the Beetham Landfill has been contained.

In an advisory issued today, SWMCOL said the fire, which originated in the south-western section of the landfill on Saturday, February 7, has been successfully brought under control.

The company said normal operations at the Beetham Landfill will resume on Monday, February 9.

SWMCOL warned that although the fire has been contained, smoke from the incident may intermittently affect surrounding areas. It urged members of the public, particularly those with respiratory conditions, to exercise caution when travelling along the Beetham Highway and nearby communities.

SWMCOL apologised for the inconvenience caused and said it will continue to monitor the situation and take all necessary measures to ensure public safety.
