A man was shot and killed by police during an operation at a house in Hindustan yesterday, after he allegedly threatened officers with a cutlass.
According to police, an acting corporal and two police constables went to a house along Naggee Road at about 10.15 am to locate and detain Timmon Francois in connection with a home invasion which occurred around 1 pm on Saturday along 5th Company Road, Indian Walk.
Police said the officers found the front door open and repeatedly announced their presence by shouting, “Police! Police!”
A police report stated that the acting corporal saw a man emerge from a room on the right side of the house wearing blue boxer shorts and holding a cutlass in his right hand.
The report alleged that the man shouted at the officers to leave the property and brandished the cutlass in a threatening manner.
Police said the acting corporal again identified himself and the officers and ordered the man to drop the weapon. However, the man allegedly advanced toward them while still armed and shouting, “I don’t f*****g care bout allyuh police!”
According to police, the acting corporal and one of the constables then drew their service pistols and fired several rounds in an effort to stop and neutralise the threat.
The man fell inside the house and officers secured the scene before discovering he had sustained gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital, where a district medical officer pronounced him dead.
Police later obtained a medical report on Francois. Investigations and other procedural enquiries are continuing.
