Citizen catches gold chain thief in San Fernando

An al­leged gold chain thief was ap­pre­hend­ed by a cit­i­zen short­ly af­ter he at­tacked a vic­tim in San Fer­nan­do on Thurs­day.

Of­fi­cers Ag Cpl Spencer and WPC Pierre were on mo­bile pa­trol around 2:10 pm when they were alert­ed about an in­ci­dent near­by. When they ar­rived near the Cus­toms House, they saw the sus­pect ly­ing on the ground be­ing de­tained by a man short­ly af­ter he al­leged­ly snatched a $9,000 gold chain from the vic­tim.

In the pres­ence of the of­fi­cers, the vic­tim point­ed out the sus­pect as the man who stole his chain. WPC Pierre in­formed the sus­pect of the of­fence and cau­tioned him, but he gave no re­sponse. The sus­pect, of Or­ange Field Road, Cara­pichaima, was ar­rest­ed and tak­en to the San Fer­nan­do Po­lice Sta­tion, where he re­quest­ed med­ical at­ten­tion.

He was then tak­en to the Roy Joseph Health Cen­tre. He was sub­se­quent­ly tak­en back to the po­lice sta­tion, where he was ex­pect­ed to be charged with lar­ce­ny. WPC Pierre is con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
