A 33-year-old man has been left homeless after a fire destroyed his house in Fanny Village, Point Fortin, early today.
Police said officers responded around 2am to reports of a blaze at LP#4 “O” Street, where they found a 20 by 24-foot wooden structure completely destroyed.
The homeowner, Jamel Knights, told officers he had secured the house around 10.30am yesterday before leaving. He said he later received a call from a neighbour around 1.30am informing him that the house was on fire.
The single-storey structure, which stood on wooden pillars and was fitted with electricity and running water, was not insured.
Fire officers from the Point Fortin station responded and extinguished the blaze.
The structure and its contents were estimated at $60,000.
