A 55-year-old man died after being electrocuted while working on a rooftop in Plum Mitan on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Anthony Simpson Baboolal of 7mm LP 66 Plum Mitan.

Police said that about 3.00 pm on December 17, Baboolal was attending to electrical wires on the roof of a small wooden storage structure next to his home. The structure, which was serviced by the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission, stood about eight feet high.

Relatives reported hearing a scream. Baboolal’s son, 21-year-old Aidan Baboolal, attempted to assist by climbing an eight-foot metal ladder but also suffered an electrical shock. Calls to the deceased went unanswered, and he was later seen lying motionless on the galvanised rooftop.

A report was made to the Biche Police Station by the deceased’s wife.

When officers arrived, Baboolal was found lying on his back on the rooftop beneath exposed live electrical wires. He was barefooted and bareback, wearing salmon-coloured trousers and black boxers. A wristwatch was on his left hand, and a metal nipper was found near his right hand.

Personnel from the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission later made the exposed wires safe.
