Man believed to be from Jamaica killed near Busy Corner

A Ja­maican na­tion­al was killed in Ch­agua­nas yes­ter­day morn­ing, while his com­pa­tri­ot was de­tained by po­lice in con­nec­tion with the in­ci­dent.

Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Bhag­wan­deen, head of the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion, said the iden­ti­ty of the de­ceased man had not yet been es­tab­lished. He said po­lice be­lieved he was a Ja­maican na­tion­al, based on in­for­ma­tion gath­ered from peo­ple in the area.

The sec­ond man, a 31-year-old Ja­maican na­tion­al, was de­tained and tak­en to hos­pi­tal un­der po­lice guard af­ter re­port­ed­ly sus­tain­ing a chop wound to his head.

Po­lice be­lieve the duo had a scuf­fle around 7.45 am in a bar near Busy Cor­ner and at­tacked each oth­er with a knife and a Chi­nese chop­per. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing. —Shas­tri Boodan
