The second suspect in the police-involved killings on Thursday night in Tobago is a Trinidadian, a senior police official has revealed.

Senior Superintendent Rodhil Kirk on Saturday said no relative has yet positively identified the body. However, he said reliable sources have confirmed the suspect is from Toco.

According to police, deceased suspect Jamal Clarke, 24, was a passenger in a silver Toyota Aqua driving along Golden Grove Road, Buccoo, around 7pm, when police intercepted the vehicle. As officers approached the vehicle, they were allegedly met with gunfire. They fired back, hitting both occupants.

Clarke, who tried to exit the vehicle during the exchange, was shot multiple times and died at the scene. The second suspect was taken to the hospital where he died.

Kirk has assured relatives of the deceased that an independent investigation will be conducted. He also expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.

A police officer, who was shot during the exchange, was reported to be in stable condition.
