Police have confirmed that only one gun was recovered at the scene following last night’s police shootout at Golden Grove Road, Buccoo, which left two suspects dead.

Police say Jamal Clarke, 24, and another man were in a silver Aqua when officers, acting on intelligence, intercepted the vehicle.

Police said shots were fired at them and, in keeping with use of force policy, they returned fire. Both occupants of the Aqua were hit.

Clarke died at the scene, while the driver was taken to the Scarborough hospital, where he later died.

Police have not released the identity of the second suspect, as his relatives have not yet identified his body.

An officer who was injured in the exchange was hospitalised overnight but is expected to be released.
