T&TEC crews are working to restore electricity to customers in parts of Santa Cruz after a large tree was uprooted during heavy rainfall on Thursday, damaging two utility poles.

The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission said the tree was uprooted at about 12:55 p.m. along Saddle Road, Santa Cruz, in the vicinity of the School for the Blind.

T&TEC said torrential rainfall had saturated the soil, resulting in the tree being uprooted and falling onto the electricity infrastructure.

Tree trimming and overhead line repair crews are on site carrying out restoration work.

The commission said electricity had already been restored to several affected customers, but the fallen tree damaged two utility poles beyond repair.

Both poles must be replaced before full restoration of electricity can be completed.

T&TEC said it is working to restore service to customers in New Pax Vale, Hololo Road and Jaggan Village by 7 p.m. Thursday.

The commission apologised for the inconvenience caused and thanked customers for their patience and understanding while repairs continue.
