Man loses gun during roadside pit stop

A 65-year-old busi­ness­man is as­sist­ing po­lice with in­ves­ti­ga­tions af­ter he in­ad­ver­tent­ly left his li­censed firearm and am­mu­ni­tion on the rear bumper of his ve­hi­cle in El So­cor­ro on Sun­day.

Po­lice said the man re­port­ed the firearm miss­ing at the St James Po­lice Sta­tion around 5 p.m.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said that around 3:30 p.m., the busi­ness­man was dri­ving his Nis­san NP300 along Sad­hoo Trace, El So­cor­ro, when he stopped at the side of the road to uri­nate.

Be­fore leav­ing the ve­hi­cle, he placed his Glock 42 pis­tol and a mag­a­zine con­tain­ing eight rounds of am­mu­ni­tion on the rear bumper.

Af­ter­wards, he re­turned to the ve­hi­cle and drove away, for­get­ting the firearm and am­mu­ni­tion.

He lat­er ar­rived at his busi­ness in Wood­brook, where he re­alised the weapon was miss­ing. He re­traced his route and re­turned to the lo­ca­tion but could not find the firearm.

Po­lice sub­se­quent­ly searched the area with­out suc­cess and are seek­ing CCTV footage from the vicin­i­ty.
