27-year-old man shot dead in Woodbrook

A 27-year-old man was shot dead and an­oth­er man wound­ed af­ter gun­men opened fire on a group along Mur­ray Street, Wood­brook, ear­ly Sun­day morn­ing.

Po­lice iden­ti­fied the dead man as Romelle Ash, of Girez Lane, El So­cor­ro.

The in­jured man was iden­ti­fied as 28-year-old Justin Mc Guirk, of Lo­cus Hill, Sec­ond Street, Barataria.

Po­lice said around 12.15 a.m., a group of men was stand­ing along Mur­ray Street, near Re­pub­lic Bank, when they were ap­proached by sev­er­al gun­men who opened fire.

Ash and Mc Guirk were struck.

Wood­brook Mo­bile 1 and the Port of Spain Task Force re­spond­ed to the scene.

Ash was tak­en to the St James In­fir­mary, where he was pro­nounced dead on ar­rival.

Mc Guirk was tak­en to the Port of Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal by mem­bers of the task force. He re­mained ward­ed and was re­ceiv­ing treat­ment.

Homi­cide Re­gion One was con­tact­ed, and of­fi­cers were pro­cess­ing the scene as in­ves­ti­ga­tions con­tin­ued.
