An escaped murder accused was shot dead by police during an operation in Vistabella on Friday night.
Police said officers went to a house on Fabien Street after receiving intelligence that the fugitive was hiding there.
According to the TTPS, the man was armed when officers found him and did not comply with instructions to drop the weapon. Police said he then confronted officers, who opened fire.
He was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said a .22 calibre revolver loaded with three rounds of ammunition was found at the scene.
The man had escaped custody at the Arima Hospital on July 3 while facing charges of murder, attempted murder and wounding with intent.
A woman was arrested on suspicion of harbouring an escaped prisoner and remains in police custody. No officers were injured.
Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro said the operation was based on intelligence and warned that anyone who helps fugitives can face criminal charges.
