A 38-year-old Arima man has appeared before the High Court charged with the murder of Wilfred Robert Madoo, known as “Boyo”, following a fatal stabbing incident in Arima last month.
Ker-Marc Allain appeared before Master Dalrymple in the High Court, North A, on June 11, where he was formally charged with the offence.
The court set a sufficiency hearing for December 14.
Madoo, 37, of Valencia, died after being stabbed during an incident at a bar in Arima on Monday, June 1.
Police said Madoo sustained injuries during the altercation and was taken for medical treatment but later succumbed to his injuries on the same day at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
Investigators arrested one male suspect in connection with the killing on Wednesday, June 3, at the Arima Police Station.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, the investigation was led by officers attached to the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region Two.
The matter was supervised by ASP (Ag.) Victor, Woman Inspector Sylvester, Sergeant Ramoutar, Sergeant Radhaykissoon and Police Constable Subiah.
Police said Allain was subsequently charged by Woman Police Constable Bill of HBI Region Two after legal advice was received from Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard, SC, on June 8.
The case now moves into the pre-trial stage, with the sufficiency hearing expected to determine whether there is enough evidence for the matter to proceed before a judge and jury.
Authorities have not released additional details surrounding the circumstances that led to the fatal stabbing.
Police continue to urge members of the public with information relating to serious crimes to cooperate with investigators as inquiries continue.
