The Port-of-Spain City Corporation staged its annual City Day Parade yesterday, as part of celebrations marking the city’s 112th anniversary.
The parade began with an official inspection at the Queen’s Park Savannah, in front of the Grand Stand, before participants proceeded along a designated route through Port-of-Spain.
A key feature of the event was the Mayoral Salute opposite City Hall on Knox Street, where Mayor Chinua Alleyne received the official salute from the marching detachments. Participants performed an “Eyes Right” as they passed the ceremonial point.
The procession travelled south along Frederick Street before moving through several major streets in the capital, including Duke Street, Pembroke Street, Prince Street and Henry Street. It later returned along Independence Square North and Frederick Street before concluding on Hart Street at Woodford Square.
The City Day Parade formed part of the corporation’s month-long celebrations under the theme “Heritage, Heart, Home,” commemorating 112 years since the restoration of civic and municipal rights to the City of Port-of-Spain.
