PoS marks 112th anniversary with City Day Parade

The Port-of-Spain City Cor­po­ra­tion staged its an­nu­al City Day Pa­rade yes­ter­day, as part of cel­e­bra­tions mark­ing the city’s 112th an­niver­sary.

The pa­rade be­gan with an of­fi­cial in­spec­tion at the Queen’s Park Sa­van­nah, in front of the Grand Stand, be­fore par­tic­i­pants pro­ceed­ed along a des­ig­nat­ed route through Port-of-Spain.

A key fea­ture of the event was the May­oral Salute op­po­site City Hall on Knox Street, where May­or Chin­ua Al­leyne re­ceived the of­fi­cial salute from the march­ing de­tach­ments. Par­tic­i­pants per­formed an “Eyes Right” as they passed the cer­e­mo­ni­al point.

The pro­ces­sion trav­elled south along Fred­er­ick Street be­fore mov­ing through sev­er­al ma­jor streets in the cap­i­tal, in­clud­ing Duke Street, Pem­broke Street, Prince Street and Hen­ry Street. It lat­er re­turned along In­de­pen­dence Square North and Fred­er­ick Street be­fore con­clud­ing on Hart Street at Wood­ford Square.

The City Day Pa­rade formed part of the cor­po­ra­tion’s month-long cel­e­bra­tions un­der the theme “Her­itage, Heart, Home,” com­mem­o­rat­ing 112 years since the restora­tion of civic and mu­nic­i­pal rights to the City of Port-of-Spain.
