A 40-year-old man who was recently released from prison was killed in a drive-by shooting in St Joseph on Sunday afternoon.

Police said Quincy Small, alias “Blacks”, was standing on Center Trace, Royal Road, Maracas, St Joseph, near a bar at around 5.40 pm when a car drove up.

A gunman inside the vehicle shot Small several times before the car sped away.

Passers-by took Small to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where he was declared dead at 5.54 pm.

Officers from the St Joseph Police Station and the Special Evidence Recovery Unit (SERU) visited the scene and found spent shells.

Investigators said Small was acquitted of the 2020 murders of Darrie Sinon and Sharlene Ramkissoon at Acono Junction, Maracas, St Joseph, as well as charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Justice Nalini Singh, who presided over the matter, ruled that the recognition evidence relied on by the State was unreliable, as the killer’s face was concealed by a hoodie and bandana.

Officers from the Region II Homicide Bureau are continuing enquiries.
