The Office of the Attorney General has sought to correct what it described as misinformation circulating on social media about the duration of the current State of Public Emergency (SOE).

In a statement, the office said the SOE remains in effect until midnight on June 17, 2026, and not June 3, 2026, as some social media posts have claimed.

The Attorney General’s Office outlined the constitutional process governing the emergency measures and explained that the SOE was first declared by the President through Legal Notice No. 39 of 2026 with effect from March 3, 2026.

Under Section 9(2) of the Constitution, the proclamation initially remained in force for 15 days and would have expired at midnight on March 17, 2026.

However, the office said the House of Representatives approved an extension of the proclamation on March 13, 2026.

It said the extension was granted in accordance with Section 10(1) of the Constitution through a simple majority resolution of the House.

The three-month extension took effect from March 18, 2026, and will end at midnight on June 17, 2026.

The Attorney General’s Office issued the clarification amid reports on social media suggesting the emergency measures were due to expire on June 3
