Cannabis, gun seized in Cunupia raid

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice seized more than $1.3 mil­lion worth of cannabis and a firearm dur­ing an an­ti-crime op­er­a­tion in Cunu­pia on Fri­day.

Ac­cord­ing to a TTPS me­dia re­lease, of­fi­cers car­ried out the in­tel­li­gence-led ex­er­cise un­der the 2026 State of Emer­gency Reg­u­la­tions as part of on­go­ing op­er­a­tions tar­get­ing nar­cotics traf­fick­ing, gang vi­o­lence, il­le­gal firearms and or­gan­ised crim­i­nal ac­tiv­i­ty in Cen­tral Di­vi­sion.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers con­duct­ed sur­veil­lance and search op­er­a­tions at a house along Rasheed Av­enue, Munroe Road, Cunu­pia, around 8 am af­ter re­ceiv­ing in­tel­li­gence.

Dur­ing the ex­er­cise, of­fi­cers de­tained a 31-year-old taxi dri­ver, who al­leged­ly led in­ves­ti­ga­tors to cro­cus bags hid­den in­side an aban­doned struc­ture near the prop­er­ty.

Po­lice said the search re­sult­ed in the seizure of 187 kilo­grammes of cannabis and 187 traf­fick­ing pack­ets of cannabis, with an es­ti­mat­ed street val­ue of $1,309,000.

Of­fi­cers al­so seized a Glock 19 pis­tol and 14 rounds of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion.

The sus­pect was ar­rest­ed and cau­tioned for pos­ses­sion of mar­i­jua­na for the pur­pose of traf­fick­ing, pos­ses­sion of a firearm with­out a firearm user’s li­cence, and pos­ses­sion of am­mu­ni­tion with­out a firearm user’s li­cence.

The op­er­a­tion in­volved of­fi­cers from the Cunu­pia Po­lice Sta­tion, Ca­roni CID, K-9 Unit and Cen­tral Di­vi­sion Task Force Area North.

DCP Op­er­a­tions Suzette Mar­tin led the ex­er­cise, which ACP An­tho­ny Re­my, Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Rudolph Bhag­wan­deen, Su­per­in­ten­dent Glodon and ASP Ho­sein co­or­di­nat­ed. ASP Mark Her­nan­dez, Act­ing In­spec­tor Ram­per­sad and Sgt Har­riot su­per­vised the op­er­a­tion.
