One arrested, cannabis trees destroyed in Northern Division exercises

Po­lice of­fi­cers at­tached to the North­ern Di­vi­sion de­stroyed 65 cannabis trees, seized cannabis and ar­rest­ed one man dur­ing an­ti-crime ex­er­cis­es con­duct­ed in Mal­oney and St Joseph on Sun­day.

Ac­cord­ing to a state­ment, of­fi­cers at­tached to the Mal­oney Po­lice Sta­tion car­ried out an in­tel­li­gence-led ex­er­cise be­tween 4 pm and 7 pm in the Mal­oney dis­trict.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers act­ed on in­for­ma­tion and went to a forest­ed area be­hind Brit­ten Boule­vard, Mal­oney, where they dis­cov­ered and de­stroyed 65 cannabis trees.

The ex­er­cise was co­or­di­nat­ed by Supt Mc Ken­zie, ASP Bale­wa, ASP Morales and In­sp Smith and su­per­vised by W/Sgt Ra­mai and Cpl Grif­fith.

PC Lawrence, PC Phillip and oth­er of­fi­cers at­tached to the Mal­oney Po­lice Sta­tion al­so par­tic­i­pat­ed in the op­er­a­tion.

In a sep­a­rate ex­er­cise, of­fi­cers at­tached to the St Joseph Po­lice Sta­tion con­duct­ed an an­ti-crime op­er­a­tion be­tween 11.30 am and 1.30 pm in the St Joseph dis­trict.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers act­ed on in­for­ma­tion re­ceived and went to Rap­sy Street, Curepe, where checks were con­duct­ed in the area.

Dur­ing the ex­er­cise, of­fi­cers dis­cov­ered a rec­tan­gu­lar block of cannabis wrapped in clear plas­tic and con­cealed in­side a drain.

Po­lice said the cannabis weighed 820 grammes. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.

Of­fi­cers al­so re­spond­ed to re­ports con­cern­ing a Span­ish-speak­ing male sus­pect who was al­leged­ly burst­ing res­i­dents’ garbage bags in the Curepe dis­trict.

Ac­cord­ing to the re­lease, of­fi­cers ob­served a man fit­ting the de­scrip­tion along the Pri­or­i­ty Bus Route near the Curepe Bridge.

The sus­pect was ar­rest­ed and tak­en in­to cus­tody pend­ing en­quiries.

Po­lice said the ex­er­cis­es formed part of on­go­ing an­ti-crime op­er­a­tions in the North­ern Di­vi­sion aimed at tar­get­ing il­le­gal ac­tiv­i­ties and re­spond­ing to re­ports from mem­bers of the pub­lic.
