A total of 10 persons remain in custody and 43 firearms and over 900 rounds of ammunition have been recovered in the ongoing investigation into the theft of weapons from the San Fernando Municipal Police Station on Sunday 19th April 2026.

In an amended statement, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said the recovery figure covers a series of coordinated operations conducted between Sunday 19th and Tuesday 21st April 2026.

During one operation in the Claxton Bay district, officers of the Highway Patrol South Operations Team intercepted a white Kia K2700 with three male occupants. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 13 firearms, 12 magazines, 288 rounds of 9mm ammunition and ten 12-gauge cartridges. The three men were arrested.

The TTPS said this followed earlier joint operations involving officers of the Southern Division, Special Branch and the Home Invasion Team, which resulted in the seizure of 30 firearms and 612 rounds of 9mm ammunition and the arrest of seven suspects.

Police said the figures represent a consolidated total as investigations progress, with recovered items being verified and accounted for as part of the ongoing probe.

However, some variation remains in how the recovered weapons have been broken down across official updates.

In earlier briefings, Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro listed 38 firearms recovered, including an MPX submachine gun, shotgun, revolver and pistols, alongside 929 rounds of ammunition.

Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander, speaking in the Senate, confirmed the 10 persons in custody and gave a slightly different breakdown of recovered weapons, including one MPX submachine gun, four shotguns, one revolver and 39 pistols, alongside around 900 rounds of ammunition.

He said: “Since this incident occurred less than 48 hours ago, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has worked around the clock. I have confirmed that, according to the information from the Commissioner of Police, that 10 men, ages 16 to 33, are currently in police custody. We have made significant progress in the recovery of these stolen hardware, including one MPX submachine gun, four shotguns, one revolver, and 39 pistols… that includes also 900 rounds of ammunition.”

The TTPS said investigations remain ongoing and further operational updates are expected as the probe continues.
