Ramadan will begin at sunset on Wednesday, according to an update issued by the ASJA Hilal Committee.
Imam Yacoob Ali said the birth of the new moon will take place at 8am on Tuesday, which corresponds with the 29th day of Sha’baan. He stated that at sunset on Tuesday the moon will be 10 hours and 17 minutes old and cannot be seen anywhere in the world.
Imam Yacoob Ali said at sunset on Wednesday the moon will be 34 hours and 18 minutes old and will be visible from India westward.
He said the month of Sha’baan will complete 30 days on Wednesday February 18, and the first day of Ramadan will be observed on Thursday.
Imam Yacoob Ali said the first Taraweeh Salaat will take place on Wednesday night with Isha Salaat, which begins at 7.26pm. He added that the first fast will begin on Thursday February 19, with Fajr Salaat at 5.14am.
Imam Yacoob Ali said all queries on the sighting of the new moon can be directed to the ASJA Hilal Committee.
Imam Yacoob Ali is Imam at Masjid in Macoon Street and Public Relations Officer of ASJA. He also serves as Chairman of the Hilal Committee of ASJA.
