A St Joseph woman was arrested and is expected to be charged with larceny, after she stole a bag containing a laptop and other valuables from the bar at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Port-of-Spain.
The victim, who lives at Upper Bournes Road, St James, reported leaving her bag on a table in the lobby of the hotel last Thursday afternoon before going off to conduct a site visit around 3 pm.
The bag reportedly contained the victim’s silver Apple MacBook Air, which was valued at $12,000, along with her purse, which contained her bank and identification cards.
Whilst lodging a formal report at the Central Police Station, the victim began tracking the laptop and indicated that the last location was along Frederick Street. She also received a notification that her bank card was used to conduct a transaction at Center Stage Clothing Store, Frederick Street, around 3.30 pm for a total of $89.
Accompanying the victim to the store, the officers confirmed the purchase and was able to view the camera footage captured at the cashier, where they saw a woman of African descent with a black and red wig and a pair of black glasses, wearing a black short sleeve jersey with the word “SEXY” across the front, a pair of dark blue jeans and brown slippers. She was also in possession of a small black backpack with red straps, and a silver Apple MacBook Air laptop, which she placed on the counter while cashing.
Following checks, officers were able to track the 42-year-old suspect to an apartment at Caiman Road, St Joseph, where she was arrested with the items in her possession.
She was taken to the Belmont Police Station for processing.
