A 44-year-old woman from St Joseph was shot dead after being lured outside her home on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said Tricia Maharaj, a landlady, was at her home at Mungia Trace, Riverside Road, around 3:35 pm when a gold-coloured Tiida sedan pulled up outside.

She reportedly received a call from someone claiming to be selling a vehicle, who told her he was outside her home.

Maharaj then went outside, where a gunman exited the car and shot her several times.

The attacker was seen returning to the back seat of the car before it sped off.

One of Maharaj’s relatives heard the gunfire and on checking, found her bleeding.

He took her to hospital, where she was declared dead shortly after.

Officers of the Region II Homicide Bureau are continuing enquiries.
