Woman finds her mother dying at home with throat slit

A woman who went to check on her moth­er yes­ter­day found her dy­ing with her throat slit at the fam­i­ly’s Gas­par­il­lo home.

Po­lice have not yet dis­closed a mo­tive for the mur­der of 74-year-old Sookh­daya Ju­ry.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, the daugh­ter last saw her moth­er alive ear­li­er that day around 1.42 pm on Tues­day dur­ing a video call. Ju­ry was ex­pect­ed to pick her up at her home at Caratal Road, Gas­par­il­lo, but when she failed to ar­rive at 2.20 pm and her phone went unan­swered, the woman and her 43-year-old hus­band went to her moth­er’s house at San Fa­bi­en Road.

They walked up­stairs and found her ly­ing on a bed on her back, gasp­ing for breath, with an in­jury to the front left side of her neck. Blood was seen at the back of her head and on the bed. She died at the scene.

The Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer viewed the body and or­dered its re­moval to a fu­ner­al home, pend­ing an au­top­sy at the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors were told that Ju­ry was seen down­stairs her home around 1.30 pm in the com­pa­ny of fam­i­ly and friends. Af­ter they left, she went up­stairs.

Po­lice were al­so in­formed that some­one called the de­ceased’s nephew, say­ing her phone had been found at D Colon­nade Rest and Bar in the wash­room area.

Of­fi­cers of the South­ern Di­vi­sion and the Homi­cide Bu­reau Re­gion 3 are con­tin­u­ing en­quiries.
