Woman caught red-handed after stealing items at hotel bar

A St Joseph woman was ar­rest­ed and is ex­pect­ed to be charged with lar­ce­ny, af­ter she stole a bag con­tain­ing a lap­top and oth­er valu­ables from the bar at the Hy­att Re­gency Ho­tel in Port-of-Spain.

The vic­tim, who lives at Up­per Bournes Road, St James, re­port­ed leav­ing her bag on a ta­ble in the lob­by of the ho­tel last Thurs­day af­ter­noon be­fore go­ing off to con­duct a site vis­it around 3 pm.

The bag re­port­ed­ly con­tained the vic­tim’s sil­ver Ap­ple Mac­Book Air, which was val­ued at $12,000, along with her purse, which con­tained her bank and iden­ti­fi­ca­tion cards.

Whilst lodg­ing a for­mal re­port at the Cen­tral Po­lice Sta­tion, the vic­tim be­gan track­ing the lap­top and in­di­cat­ed that the last lo­ca­tion was along Fred­er­ick Street. She al­so re­ceived a no­ti­fi­ca­tion that her bank card was used to con­duct a trans­ac­tion at Cen­ter Stage Cloth­ing Store, Fred­er­ick Street, around 3.30 pm for a to­tal of $89.

Ac­com­pa­ny­ing the vic­tim to the store, the of­fi­cers con­firmed the pur­chase and was able to view the cam­era footage cap­tured at the cashier, where they saw a woman of African de­scent with a black and red wig and a pair of black glass­es, wear­ing a black short sleeve jer­sey with the word “SEXY” across the front, a pair of dark blue jeans and brown slip­pers. She was al­so in pos­ses­sion of a small black back­pack with red straps, and a sil­ver Ap­ple Mac­Book Air lap­top, which she placed on the counter while cash­ing.

Fol­low­ing checks, of­fi­cers were able to track the 42-year-old sus­pect to an apart­ment at Caiman Road, St Joseph, where she was ar­rest­ed with the items in her pos­ses­sion.

She was tak­en to the Bel­mont Po­lice Sta­tion for pro­cess­ing.
