Firearms, ammunition, firearm parts and cannabis were seized during police operations in the Western Division on Sunday.
Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro acknowledged the work of officers assigned to the division and referenced continued policing activity within communities. The Commissioner referenced the role of Senior Superintendent AG Williams and officers under his command and indicated that enforcement will continue.
At about 2.53 pm, officers acting on information searched a concrete structure at Faustin Trace, Maraval. During the search, officers found a backpack behind a sheet of galvanised material. Inside was one Glock 19 pistol and three packages containing 369 rounds of ammunition. The ammunition included 100 rounds of 9mm, 106 rounds of 7.62mm and 163 rounds of 5.56mm.
Further searches led to the discovery of a bag containing firearm parts. The items included six rifle magazines, two pistol drum magazines, one rifle butt and one pistol extended magazine. Also found were two packets containing 356.6 grams of cannabis, eight ski masks and items of clothing.
In another exercise, officers proceeded to Belle-Vue, Long Circular Road, St James, following information received. During a search of the area, Police Constable Burgos found a plastic bag near a garbage heap. The bag contained a Beretta firearm with a magazine and five rounds of 9mm ammunition. A 30-year-old man from Jeffers Lane, St James, and Celestine Trace, Maraval, was arrested under the Emergency Powers Regulation 2025.
Earlier, at about 9.00 am, officers received information about a Nissan AD van parked on Nicholas Street, Maraval. Woman Police Constable Salandy located the vehicle. Checks revealed issues with registration plates and the ignition. The vehicle was taken to the St James Police Station.
