The Water and Sewerage Authority has begun implementing measures to manage the country’s water supply, following the declaration of the start of the 2026 Dry Season by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service on January 8, 2025.
WASA said it is closely monitoring water resources and taking steps to maintain a sustainable supply throughout the dry period, adding that cooperation between the Authority and the public is critical as conditions become drier.
The Authority reported that as of Thursday 8 January 2025, the country’s four main impounded reservoirs were above their respective long-term averages, placing WASA in a favourable position as the Dry Season begins.
WASA reports that at the Arena Reservoir, levels stood at 98.3 per cent compared with 79.2 per cent on January 8, 2025, and a long-term average of 95.2 per cent.
The Navet Reservoir recorded a level of 96.0 per cent on Thursday, WASA reported, compared with 92.9 per cent on January 8, 2025, and a long-term average of 97.2 per cent.
Hillsborough Reservoir was at 99.5 per cent, WASA said, compared with 100 per cent on January 8, 2025, and a long-term average of 97.4 per cent.
At the Hollis Reservoir, levels were measured at 93.8 per cent, compared with 98.9 per cent on January 8, 2025, and a long-term average of 94.6 per cent.
WASA said it has activated its Dry Season Water Management Plan, which focuses on maintaining a sustainable and equitable water supply for communities across the country. Key elements of the plan include the prudent monitoring and management of water resources to ensure strategic and equitable distribution; ongoing infrastructure maintenance and upgrades aimed at reducing leaks and improving efficiency; and a public awareness campaign to keep stakeholders informed.
Under the theme, “Join the Evolution. Make Every Drop Count”, the Authority said it will use all media platforms to share information on supply challenges, mitigation measures, conservation techniques, and reservoir updates.
WASA also encouraged citizens to take proactive steps to conserve water, stressing that collective effort is essential to ensuring a sustainable water supply during the Dry Season.
