Two fishermen who were reported missing off the south-east coast of Trinidad have been found safe after experiencing engine problems while at sea.

Brian ‘Smells’ Williams and a second fisherman known as ‘Bay-K’ were located around 9 pm on Sunday, after concerns grew when they failed to return from a fishing trip.

The Hunters Search and Rescue Team, led by Captain Vallence Rambharat, confirmed that the men were found after their vessel encountered mechanical difficulties.

The fishermen had left Guayaguayare at 4 pm on Saturday aboard a blue and teal fishing pirogue named ‘Richard’ and licensed TFN 6283. They were expected to return by 6 am yesterday (March 1, 2026).

When they did not return as scheduled, an alert was circulated among fisherfolk and marine interests from Guayaguayare to Moruga, urging anyone with information to assist in locating them.

They were later found safe after the engine problems left them stranded at sea.

No injuries were reported.
