Two killed in police shooting after Facebook Marketplace robbery

Two men were shot dead by po­lice around 2 pm to­day af­ter an al­leged rob­bery at­tempt in Mt Hope in­volv­ing a Face­book Mar­ket­place meet­ing.

Re­ports in­di­cate the men met the in­tend­ed vic­tim along Com­mu­ni­ty Dri­ve, Mt Hope, and at­tempt­ed to rob him of an undis­closed sum of mon­ey. The vic­tim had alert­ed po­lice, prompt­ing an in­tel­li­gence-led op­er­a­tion.

Of­fi­cers lat­er in­ter­cept­ed the sus­pects’ ve­hi­cle along Main­got Road. Dur­ing the con­fronta­tion, two of the men re­port­ed­ly opened fire on po­lice, who re­turned fire.

One sus­pect died on the dri­ve­way of a near­by home­own­er, while the sec­ond died in a near­by riv­er. Both re­main uniden­ti­fied.

A third man was in­jured dur­ing the in­ci­dent and re­mains hos­pi­talised un­der po­lice guard. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
