Two held as police seize narcotics and ammunition

Two peo­ple were ar­rest­ed and nar­cotics and am­mu­ni­tion were seized dur­ing po­lice ex­er­cis­es con­duct­ed on Wednes­day.

In the South­ern Di­vi­sion, of­fi­cers of the Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment Op­er­a­tions Unit car­ried out an ex­er­cise around 10.45 pm and went to the Clax­ton Bay dis­trict. Dur­ing a search of a house, of­fi­cers found more than one kilo­gramme of cannabis on the premis­es. A woman was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the find.

In the North East­ern Di­vi­sion, Task Force of­fi­cers con­duct­ed an ex­er­cise be­tween 10.30 am and 1.45 pm and went to the San Juan dis­trict. Of­fi­cers found cannabis and co­caine hid­den in box­es in the vicin­i­ty of a bar. The op­er­a­tion was led by W/Snr Supt Guy-Al­leyne, Supt Birch, ASP Cal­len­der and In­sp Ram­s­ingh. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing in­to the dis­cov­ery.

In the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion, of­fi­cers from the Cen­tral Op­er­a­tions Unit, the Ch­agua­nas Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment and Task Force Area North con­duct­ed an op­er­a­tion be­tween 5 am and 8 am. Of­fi­cers went to a home in Cunu­pia linked to a male sus­pect and con­duct­ed a search. The search re­sult­ed in the dis­cov­ery of 66 rounds of 7.62 am­mu­ni­tion and four 12-gauge car­tridges. A 37-year-old man who was on the premis­es at the time was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the items.

In the Port of Spain Di­vi­sion, of­fi­cers con­duct­ed an ex­er­cise be­tween 10 am and 3 pm. Dur­ing the ex­er­cise, of­fi­cers found cannabis in the Laven­tille dis­trict. Po­lice al­so re­cov­ered a blue Hyundai Elantra mo­tor ve­hi­cle which had been re­port­ed stolen from the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion.
