Two men were arrested and a firearm and narcotics seized during police exercises in the Western and Eastern Divisions on Friday.
At 9:11 a.m., officers of the Western Division, including W/Cpl Cupid, Ag. Cpl Peters and Cpl Frith, acted on information about a man in a Honda Vezel with a firearm. Officers found the vehicle in a supermarket car park near an ATM. W/Cpl Cupid and WPC Joseph approached and saw one man inside.
Police identified themselves, informed the man of the report and searched him. Officers found a Springfield Armory Hellcat pistol with an empty magazine. The man said he did not hold a Firearm User’s Licence and that his wife was the licence holder. A search of the vehicle found nothing else.
The suspect, of Goodwood Park, was arrested and taken to the Four Roads Police Station.
In a separate exercise between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., officers of the Eastern Division Task Force carried out an operation in the Sangre Grande district.
After surveillance, officers intercepted a 39-year-old man of Caigual Road, Sangre Chiquito, driving a Nissan March along the Eastern Main Road, Damarie Hill.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a box with 11 packages of cannabis. The drugs weighed 5.7 kilogrammes and have an estimated value of $171,000.
The suspect was arrested and taken to the Sangre Grande Police Station with the narcotics.
