A Tobago man has been shot and killed by police following a confrontation near Patience Hill on Wednesday night.

Police said Hasani Bobb was driving a Nissan Tiida when officers intercepted the vehicle.

Bobb was one of two suspects in the robbery of a police officer at Pigeon Point last week, during which the officer's firearm was reportedly stolen.

Snr Supt Rodhil Kirk said Bobb allegedly pointed a gun at officers and ignored commands to drop the weapon.

Kirk said officers, fearing for their lives, shot Bobb in keeping with the police use-of-force policy.

Bobb was taken to the Scarborough General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Kirk confirmed that two firearms were recovered at the scene, including the weapon reported stolen from the officer.

Police are investigating the incident.
