Three suspects were arrested and two firearms and quantities of ammunition were seized during anti-crime exercises conducted in the Central and Western Divisions on Tuesday.
In the Central Division, officers of Task Force Area North conducted an exercise between 1 pm and 6 pm. During the operation, officers proceeded to the Enterprise district, where they carried out a search at a residence located on Chrissie Terrace.
During the search, officers found one pistol with a magazine. A 23-year-old woman who was at the premises at the time of the exercise was arrested in connection with the discovery.
The Central Division operation was coordinated by Snr Supt Bhagwandeen, Supt Glodon and ASP Hernandez. Personnel of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment also took part in the exercise.
In the Western Division, officers of the Gang and Intelligence Unit and the Task Force conducted an exercise between 3 pm and 6 pm in the St James district.
During the Western Division exercise, officers arrested two male suspects, ages 18 and 19. The suspects are from St James and Long Circular. The arrests were made in connection with the possession of one pistol and a quantity of ammunition.
The suspects were taken into police custody while investigations continued into the circumstances surrounding the seizures.
The exercises formed part of ongoing operations being conducted in multiple divisions. Police said the operations were aimed at addressing firearm-related offences and enforcing the law in the respective districts.
All seized items were taken to police facilities to be processed in accordance with procedure. Further action in the matters is expected following the completion of investigations.
