Three robbed after Beetham fender bender

Three peo­ple were robbed when they stopped on the Beetham High­way to in­spect dam­ages to their ve­hi­cle af­ter a mi­nor ac­ci­dent on Fri­day night.

Po­lice said the trio – all from Ch­agua­nas – were trav­el­ling in a Ford Ranger on the east­bound lane of the Beetham High­way, at around 10.20 pm when they felt an­oth­er ve­hi­cle come in­to con­tact with their rear of their van.

A man in a gold Nis­san Almera then drove along­side their ve­hi­cle and de­mand­ed they pull aside.

The dri­ver of the van drove to the shoul­der of the high­way near 24th Street, Beetham Gar­dens, when they were ap­proached by the dri­ver of the Almera who de­mand­ed mon­ey im­me­di­ate­ly for dam­ages to his car.

The man then re­port­ed­ly called for oth­ers from near­by hous­es, as two ban­dits walked out and be­gan beat­ing the trio.

The ban­dits stole $800 in cash, a gold chain, good ring and cell­phone be­fore be­ing or­dered back in­to their van.

A re­port was made and of­fi­cers of the Besson Street CID are con­tin­u­ing en­quiries.
