A 39-year-old man was shot dead in Emon Lane, Valencia on Sunday night. The incident marks the third killing in the area within days and has deepened fear among residents.

The victim, Keshawn Guy, of Emon Lane, Valencia and Pinto Road, Arima, was attacked around 8.40 pm while approaching his home with his wife.

Police said a suspect approached Guy, who ran when he saw the man. The suspect gave chase and moments later loud explosions were heard. Guy’s wife later found him lying on the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers from the Valencia Police Post responded and found Guy unresponsive. A District Medical Officer pronounced him dead at the scene. Crime scene investigators recovered items of evidential value, but the suspect escaped.

The killing follows two other recent murders in the same area.

Last Tuesday, 52-year-old Dexter Ferreira, an employee of the Arima Borough Corporation, was shot dead by a gunman shortly after buying doubles at the corner of Emon Lane. One day earlier, Shaun Charles was killed in a separate shooting, while his wife was also shot and remains hospitalised.

Police have made no arrests in those cases.

Residents said the killings have left the community on edge, with some noting that two of the victims were members of a mosque in the area. They are calling for increased police presence and action to restore a sense of safety.

Investigations are continuing.
