A 38-year-old St Joseph man wrestled a gun away from a bandit who tried to rob his mother at their home on Sunday night.

Police said the man was at his family’s home on Maracas Royal Road at around 10.50 pm when he saw a bandit in the living room. The stranger pointed a gun at the man’s 60-year-old mother and demanded her chain.

The bandit then aimed the gun at the man, who fought with the intruder and wrestled away his pistol. The bandit fled the house, leaving the gun behind.

St Joseph police were called and seized the firearm, which contained seven rounds of .380 ammunition. Officers of the St Joseph CID are continuing enquiries.
