Soldier ambushed and killed in Chaguanas attack

Po­lice are prob­ing the mur­der of a 30-year-old pri­vate with the TT Reg­i­ment af­ter he was gunned down while try­ing to get in­to his ve­hi­cle on Sat­ur­day night.

Po­lice said Jae­lani Gar­cia Williams was about to get in­to a black Nis­san X-Trail which was parked near a mi­ni-mart on La Clave Street, Ed­in­burgh 500, at around 9.30 pm when an­oth­er ve­hi­cle drove near him.

A gun­man got out of the car and shot Williams sev­er­al times be­fore get­ting back in the car and dri­ving off.

A dis­trict med­ical of­fi­cer was called in who de­clared Williams dead at the scene.

Of­fi­cers of the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion and the Homi­cide Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tions Re­gion III vis­it­ed the scene and are con­tin­u­ing en­quiries.
