Siparia man, 61, killed in crash

A Siparia man is dead af­ter a fa­tal crash along the Sir Solomon Ho­choy High­way in the ear­ly hours of Sun­day morn­ing.

Po­lice said the in­ci­dent oc­curred around 3.20 am when of­fi­cers re­spond­ed to a re­port of a road traf­fic ac­ci­dent along the south­bound lane in Gas­par­il­lo. Up­on ar­rival, they found a sil­ver Nis­san Ti­i­da in a ditch off the shoul­der of the high­way, ex­ten­sive­ly dam­aged.

The dri­ver, iden­ti­fied as 61-year-old Stephen Dalpino of Coo­ra Road, Sen­non Vil­lage, Siparia, was found mo­tion­less and un­re­spon­sive at the scene.

Of­fi­cers from the Gas­par­il­lo Po­lice Sta­tion, along with the South­ern Di­vi­sion du­ty in­spec­tor, re­spond­ed and se­cured the area. Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer Dr Balkissoon lat­er pro­nounced Dalpino dead and or­dered the re­moval of the body to the San Fer­nan­do Mor­tu­ary.

The body was sub­se­quent­ly re­moved by fu­ner­al home per­son­nel, while Crime Scene In­ves­ti­ga­tors processed the scene.

Po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to the cir­cum­stances sur­round­ing the crash are on­go­ing.
