A Siparia man is dead after a fatal crash along the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police said the incident occurred around 3.20 am when officers responded to a report of a road traffic accident along the southbound lane in Gasparillo. Upon arrival, they found a silver Nissan Tiida in a ditch off the shoulder of the highway, extensively damaged.
The driver, identified as 61-year-old Stephen Dalpino of Coora Road, Sennon Village, Siparia, was found motionless and unresponsive at the scene.
Officers from the Gasparillo Police Station, along with the Southern Division duty inspector, responded and secured the area. District Medical Officer Dr Balkissoon later pronounced Dalpino dead and ordered the removal of the body to the San Fernando Mortuary.
The body was subsequently removed by funeral home personnel, while Crime Scene Investigators processed the scene.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.
