PNM Tobago Council political leader Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis is warning that there is “no room for complacency” or personal agendas within the party, as she seeks to strengthen the organisation following the resignation of council chairman Nicole Henry-Waldron.

In a statement posted to social media, Cudjoe-Lewis said the PNM’s position in Opposition means members must be prepared for “hard work, sacrifice, unity and a shared sense of purpose.”

She said the current era of leadership demands presence, commitment, accountability and, above all, a genuine willingness to serve.

“There is no room for complacency, personal agendas or the pursuit of titles without the willingness to fulfil the responsibilities that come with them,” Cudjoe-Lewis said.

Her comments came one day after Henry-Waldron resigned as chairman and renounced her membership of the PNM, five months after being elected to the post.

Cudjoe-Lewis said she respected the decision of those who have chosen to step away and thanked them for their contributions. However, she said the responsibility to thousands of PNM members and supporters remains unchanged.

She said her commitment as political leader remains firm, with the focus on rebuilding trust among Tobagonians, strengthening the organisation and presenting a credible alternative to the electorate.

“The work continues, the mission remains the same,” Cudjoe-Lewis said, adding that the PNM “will always be bigger than any one of us.”
