The first baby of the New Year at the Sangre Grande Hospital Campus was born just after midnight.
The Eastern Regional Health Authority said a baby boy was delivered at 1:11 am on January 1, 2026. The child, named Ethan, weighed 2,960 grammes (6.5 lbs).
The mother, Adanna Ward of Malabar, delivered the baby with the assistance of licensed midwife Vonnetta Gooding.

Later that morning, at 8:45 am, a second baby boy was born at the facility. His mother, Zennesha Sooklal, delivered a child weighing 2,830 grammes (6.3 lbs).
The Authority said mothers and expectant mothers on the maternity ward were given gift bags to mark the New Year.
