San Juan taxi driver killed in suspected robbery

Po­lice sus­pect that rob­bery was the mo­tive for the mur­der of a 35-year-old San Juan taxi dri­ver, whose body was dis­cov­ered ear­ly on Fri­day morn­ing.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers were on pa­trol when they re­ceived a re­port of a shoot­ing on Laven­tille Road, Febeau Vil­lage, around 12.05 am.

On ar­rival, they found a gold Nis­san Almera with the keys still in the ig­ni­tion and the en­gine run­ning.

In the back­seat, they found the body of Anand Joseph.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors found nine spent 9 mm shells, two live rounds of am­mu­ni­tion and a black ban­dana at the scene.

The car was towed to the Spe­cial Ev­i­dence Re­cov­ery Unit (SERU) in Cu­mu­to for fur­ther bal­lis­tic analy­sis.

Rel­a­tives told po­lice that Joseph was last seen alive on Thurs­day by a rel­a­tive, be­fore he left to work as a taxi dri­ver along the San Juan to Febeau Vil­lage route.

The rel­a­tive re­port­ed­ly told po­lice that when she ar­rived at the scene of the crime she no­ticed the rear bumper and four hub­caps from Joseph’s car were miss­ing.

Of­fi­cers of the Re­gion II Homi­cide Bu­reau are con­tin­u­ing en­quiries. —Shane Su­perville
