Police suspect that robbery was the motive for the murder of a 35-year-old San Juan taxi driver, whose body was discovered early on Friday morning.

Police said officers were on patrol when they received a report of a shooting on Laventille Road, Febeau Village, at around 12.05 am.

On arrival, they found a gold Nissan Almera with the keys still in the ignition and the engine running.

In the backseat they found the body of Anand Joseph.

Investigators found nine spent 9 mm shells, two live rounds of ammunition and a black bandana at the scene.

A district medical officer was called in who declared Joseph dead at the scene.

The car was towed to the Special Evidence Recovery Unit (SERU) in Cumuto for further ballistic analysis.

Sources confirmed that Joseph was last seen alive on Thursday by a relative, before he left to work as a taxi along the San Juan to Febeau Village route.

The relative reportedly told police that when she arrived at the scene, the rear bumper and four hubcaps from Joseph’s car were missing.

Officers of the Region II Homicide Bureau are continuing enquiries.
