Ratiram appoints Veterinary Surgeons Registration Board

Min­is­ter of Agri­cul­ture and Fish­eries, Ravi Rati­ram, has pre­sent­ed Let­ters of Ap­point­ment to mem­bers of the Vet­eri­nary Sur­geons Reg­is­tra­tion Board at the Min­istry’s head of­fice.

The ap­point­ments were made dur­ing a cer­e­mo­ny held to­day. Rati­ram said the Board will car­ry out its man­date in re­la­tion to the vet­eri­nary pro­fes­sion and the agri­cul­tur­al sec­tor.

Ap­point­ed to the Board are Dr Lisa Mu­sai, Chair­man; Dr Anil Ram­nanan, Mem­ber; and Dr Kriyaan Singh, Mem­ber.

The Vet­eri­nary Sur­geons Reg­is­tra­tion Board is re­spon­si­ble for over­see­ing the reg­is­tra­tion and con­duct of vet­eri­nary prac­ti­tion­ers. The Board al­so mon­i­tors com­pli­ance with stan­dards gov­ern­ing vet­eri­nary prac­tice and sup­ports mea­sures re­lat­ed to an­i­mal health and food pro­duc­tion.

Rati­ram con­grat­u­lat­ed the ap­pointees and stat­ed that the Min­istry will work with the Board in ex­e­cut­ing its func­tions un­der the law.

The Min­istry of Agri­cul­ture and Fish­eries stat­ed that the Board will con­tin­ue its work in main­tain­ing reg­u­la­to­ry over­sight of the pro­fes­sion. The Min­istry al­so stat­ed that the ap­point­ments form part of its pro­gramme for ad­min­is­tra­tion of the vet­eri­nary sec­tor.

The Board op­er­ates un­der the le­gal frame­work gov­ern­ing vet­eri­nary sur­geons and is tasked with mat­ters re­lat­ing to li­cens­ing, dis­ci­pline and pro­fes­sion­al prac­tice.

Rati­ram said the Min­istry re­mains en­gaged with stake­hold­ers in agri­cul­ture and vet­eri­nary ser­vices and will sup­port the work of the Board in car­ry­ing out its re­spon­si­bil­i­ties.
